Ptarmigan Mysteries // Fine Art Print
A Willow Ptarmigan in its breeding plumage waits on the snowy tundra as its nesting season approaches. Ptarmigan are unique Arctic birds, well adapted to a life in the cold, but they share their landscape in the summer with millions of migratory birds. This little ptarmigan was my constant companion when I was living out on the tundra of Alaska’s Teshekpuk Lake. It would appear each day and skulk about near me, until one day it let me creep up close enough to take this photograph of it at home on the tundra.
